What is Marine Engine Diagnostics?

Marine engine diagnostics is the analysis of an engine’s internal computer system. This is achieved by connecting the engine’s ECM (Electronic Control Module) to a computer running a diagnostic software. The connection is done using an adapter that is specific to the engine that is being investigated. A marine engine diagnostic helps provide crucial information on the history of the engine. This information is fundamental when purchasing a new or used boat. With a diagnostic scan, the marine surveyor is able to confirm details like the RPM run history, real engine hours and other vital information that gives you a better understanding of how the engine has been used. The diagnostic will reveal both old and new fault codes.

To help our clients’ make the best decision when buying a boat, we provide them with diagnostics that provide crucial details on the history of an engine. In addition, our advanced engine diagnostic software can record an engine’s performance during a sea trial. This is for inboard-powered boats. This helps the surveyor confirm the correctness of the gauges as well as get more accurate data on the overall performance of a vessel in a sea trial. Engine diagnostics is provided as an additional option on gasoline inboard and most outboard engines that are equipped with ECMs.

Outboard Engine Diagnostics

Sun Coast Marine Surveying offers engine diagnostic checks on all jet ski and outboard engines. We will connect your engine’s ECM to our robust diagnostic software using an adapter that is specific to your engine. This helps our marine surveyors to verify vital details such as the engine’s RPM run history, engine hours, fault codes and in some cases we can get details on your servicing history. These details are vital when deciding on the boat or jet ski to buy. However, you should note that this service is optional and only offered when getting a marine survey.

PC Diagnostic Power

Diacom Marine is quickly redefining marine engine diagnostic services. It is a servicing tool that can identify problems quickly and accurately. This is made possible by the fact that most gasoline inboard, outboard motors and sterndrive all come with a complex engine control system. Diacom will give you complete access to the engine control system with a standard notebook. The software has more advanced diagnostic features than any other tool on the market.

You Spoke, We Listened

Diacom was not developed for the sake of developing a diagnostic tool. Diacom Marine was created with your opinions and recommendations in mind. We know that there is no one more competent to complete your tasks than you. That is why for the last decade, we have been accumulating information from the businesses and marine service professionals that we serve. This information helped our engineers create a wish list, which helped us build an organized, user-friendly and discoverable tool. This tool is the Diacom Marine. It was made possible by your valuable feedback.

Internet Connectivity

The Internet is constantly changing the way we do things. It has probably changed how you communicate with customers and suppliers. Diacom is here to give the Internet the means to change the way you troubleshoot engines. The tool is Internet conscious and offers the ability to easily share data with third parties. It is also able to convert your engine data into formats that can be read by such software as Access and Microsoft Excel.

Big Screen, Huge Advantage

Laptops have bigger and better screens than ever before. Diacom is taking advantage of this new feature to display the ‘Big Picture’ of what is really happening. It achieves this by taking advantage of the large display on your personal computer. The Big Picture ensures that you will be spending more time understanding EFI values and less time clicking on scanner keys to read through the list of parameters. Diacom further allows you to alter data display so that you can see every EFI system type in the way it best appeals to you. Added features include side-by-side twin engine displays, expanded parameter windows, instant pop-up graphs, report printing and extensive data recording capabilities. This shows why more and more marine surveyors are turning to Diacom.

The Electronic Information Age

You no longer have to spend hours sifting through huge mountains of service manuals and technical bulletins. Instead, most manufacturers provide engine service information on CDs. The digital data is easy to search and can be updated with engine servicing information. Diacom takes advantage of the electronic information age and makes it easy to load digital information provided by engine manufacturers into the tool. On the Diacom display screen, you will be able to access service information features by simply clicking on the fault code.

Tests Made to Order

Because there is a huge variety of EFI systems that are being used in the marine sector, tests that have been made for a specific engine management system cannot be used on other systems. The engineers who developed Diacom understand this. As a result, the tool is designed to set itself up automatically to fit the EFI system that is under investigation. This helps streamline work by displaying and delivering specific sets of tests relevant to a specific system. The Windows ActiveX programming technology makes this possible.

Special Functions

Every factory-authorized dealership understands the importance of having the most up-to-date service technology. This is why we integrated specialist EFI system functions in Diacom Marine. We were able to do this thanks to a collaboration with marine engine manufacturers. As a result, factory-authorized dealerships can perform memory updates and system upgrades within minutes with one integrated diagnostic program. As a result, Diacom helps reduce and, in some cases, eliminate the use of ECM exchanges.
